Although the main attraction in our magnificent Drakensberg mountain range is hiking, we are also privileged to have several game reserves within easy driving distance.
The Big 5 are on show at Nambiti Game Reserve close to Ladysmith, with a variety of up-market accommodation lodges from where the game drives emanate.
The Spionkop Game Reserve, bordering the banks of the Spionkop Dam, has a variety of plains game and white rhino. Twice daily for years, horse rides have created a wonderful game viewing experience with the horses and animals comfortable with each other’s presence. Self-drive within the park is permitted.
A real bushveld game reserve is to be found near Weenen, 30 km from Estcourt, with self-drive game viewing traversing both savannah and thornveld ‘koppies’ with plains game and white rhinos. The ZuluWaters Reserve, near Wagendrift Dam, provides game drives and walks.
