Montusi Mountain Lodge offers a different “berg getaway”. It is smaller and more intimate than the standard Berg Resort. It offers that rare combination of Space, Comfort and Peace with a breath-taking view over the foothills and plains of the Little Berg up to the spectacular cliffs of the 3000-meter high escarpment. It is owner-run by the third generation of the Carte family who settled in this valley in the 1940s. Generational experience has evolved into a fierce passion for the area for sharing of the beauty of this natural environment with all who visit.
Situated on a 1000 hectare conservation estate, the lodge offers unlimited space for hiking, mountain biking, trail running and horse riding.
The lodge complex is spacious and the suites are free-standing units within carefully designed indigenous gardens. Right from the private patio of every suite, guests can enjoy bird watching, while soaking in the magnificence of the ever-changing light and shadow playing on the face of the Amphitheatre wall. A relaxation massage is also a great way to unwind for those looking to simply relax and revel in “doing nothing”.
The suites all have one or two bedrooms, each with their own bathroom, and a lounge with private patio. They are specifically orientated to take full advantage of the mountain views while giving guests the privacy of their own space. All the little details to make for a proper pampering are covered: umbrellas, ceiling fans, heated bathrooms, excellent coffee, a fridge for fresh milk, a comprehensive information booklet about the area, a gas fireplace with real flames, fresh flowers, arrival treats and of course, gloriously soft dressing gowns.
The kitchen provides imaginative cuisine for all tastes. The dinner menu includes 5 courses of deliciousness that are just big enough to sate the appetite without feeling over full. The unusual flavour combinations accompanied by the extremely reasonably priced wines make dinners a highlight of the Montusi Experience.
Alfresco breakfasts on the Phumleni make the start to a day of adventure or relaxation unbeatable: the bird-song, views and delicious food on offer are the perfect breakfast combination. On chilly days, the crackling fire in the dining room makes for a cosy breakfast experience.
The Carte Family looks forward to welcoming all to Montusi Mountain Lodge!
